How
Do I Get Rid of Bugs & Pests?
Homemade
Repellents Can Remove Household Pests
It
doesn't matter if it is outside in your garden, or inside
your home, every single one of us have, at
one time or another, has to deal with pest problems.
There are a number of ways that you can rid your home of insects
and other pests without having to spend a lot of money purchasing
expensive products.
When you find that your garden is overcome with pests, you
can create a mixture to control them yourself. Use one tablespoon
of liquid dishwashing soap and one cup of cooking oil. Take
a quart of clean water and mix with approximately three tablespoons
of this concentrate. Fill a pump bottle with your mixture and
spray as needed on plants. There is also another recipe you
can try for insect control. Saturate citrus rind like lemon,
orange or grapefruit in water for a few days. When the mixture
is well marinated, pour the water into a pump bottle and spray
on insect infested plants.
If you find that your kitchen
shelves are overcome with ants,
there are natural homemade methods to rid your home of these
unwelcome pests. A cucumber peel placed on a kitchen shelf
is an excellent way to prevent ants. The peel from a bitter
cucumber will always work the best. You can also opt to try
washing or spraying the infested shelves with a blend of vinegar
and water.
One of the easiest ant
repellents to create is with a mixture
of soapy water. Place the soapy water into a squirt bottle
and spray directly onto any ants you see in your home.
Basil is known to be a natural
insect repellent. A pot of
basil placed in your kitchen will go a long way in helping
to eliminate any household pests. The next time you have a
picnic, take a number of basil leaves along with you. If you
place the basil on your picnic table or blanket, the flies
will stay away.
Bay
leaves are also a natural method of household pest control.
Bay leaves left in your pantry will encourage pests to stay
away. If you leave a bay leaf in a container of flour, cornmeal
or cereal, it will prevent an infestation of weevils.
Peppermint planted around your house serves as a natural method
for controlling both ants and mice. Cinnamon sprinkled around
the foundation of your house is another way you can naturally
control an ant infestation.
If
you have found that you have a problem with moths in your
clothing drawers there is a natural way to control these pests.
Mint teabags can be placed in your clothing drawers as a natural
way to repel moths.
One method for ridding your home naturally of cockroaches should only be tried if you do not have a cat. Catnip is found
to be a natural repellent to cockroaches. The active ingredient
in catnip is nepetalactone, which is non-toxic to humans and
pets. You can create or purchase small sachets of catnip and
leave them in high traffic cockroach areas.
Another option is to simmer the catnip in a small amount of
water to create somewhat of a catnip tea. This tea can then
be placed in a squirt bottle and sprayed around baseboards
and behind counters.
There is a wonderfully effective method for naturally ridding
your home of fleas. Fill a wide shallow pan half full of soapy
water and place it in the area most affected by the fleas.
Shine a lamp over the water and the fleas will jump towards
the heat of the lamp and land in the water. The fleas will
not be able to jump back out of the water because the detergent
works to break the surface tension of the water.
