How
Do I Get Rid of Bugs & Pests?
Get
Rid of That Noisy Cricket
Everyone likes the sounds and sights of summertime
– except for the crickets. Crickets are probably one of the
most annoying bugs that you could have in your home or around
it, because of their chirping. It never seems to end – and
the crickets are so small that they are hard for you to see.
Another problem with the crickets is that even if you can handle
the sound of their chirping, allowing them in your house means
disaster for anything they can eat – your wall paper, your
clothing, your wood and carpets. The only way to make sure
you avoid these problems is to make sure that you don’t have
crickets. This isn’t that hard to do, as long as you follow
several steps.
First
of all, change
the way the outside of your house is lit. Bright
lights are going to attract bugs like crickets, so getting
rid of the bright lights and turning instead to
the lower and softer yellow colored lights will help to make
your home uninviting to crickets and other pests. After you
have done this, it is your job to seal up any cracks that lead
from outside into your home. Make sure you are watching the
doors and windows, and don’t forget dryer vents. They will
get in wherever they can, and others will follow. If you can’t
seal up an opening, place a screen or another barrier over
it so that the crickets cannot get in.
Another thing that you should do to rid yourself of crickets
is to make sure that any vegetation that grows around
your house is at least 12 inches away from the walls. The crickets
will tend to actually congregate in the vegetation that you
have growing, so if it is close to your house, they are going
to be close as well.
You can get cricket
bait at your garden store. Use it as directed
to sprinkle around the outside of your house. Once you have,
this will keep the crickets from getting in. If you don’t want
to use chemicals to catch and kill the crickets, you can use
sticky traps. The crickets will stick to them, and then they
can be flushed, or if you prefer, let outside.
A good way to get rid of crickets in your home is to simply
vacuum up any that you see in your home. This is a great way
to pick them up and to get rid of them. If you find that you
have done all of this, and there are still crickets in your
house, you are going to want to call a pest control company,
because these little bugs, besides for being annoying, can
also be very detrimental to your home and to your belongings.
There
are some other tips that you might want to consider. If you
are vacuuming up or catching crickets see if anyone
around your neighborhood - kids mostly, have lizards or snakes.
You can pass along the crickets you find by putting them into
a jar and saving them. Another tip is to lower the
humidity in your home. This is because crickets really like humid weather
and humid environments. If your house is drier, they are going
to be less apt to want to stay there. It will also help if
you remove any of the algae or standing water, as well as the
molds that might be in your home. Removing these things is
a good idea anyway, because they can be harmful for your family.
But they will also help to get rid of the crickets that are
already there, and help you to avoid having more crickets.
